It appears across religious and mythological traditions, and is linked to the landscapes of the Epic of Gilgamesh, where mountains mark thresholds between worlds. Across these references the mountain is held within overlapping systems of meaning-at once sacred, storied, and materially grounded\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe mountain is a site where multiple forces converge. It carries religious significance, political tension, ecological systems, and routes of passage that have long shaped movement across the region. For those who dwell in its proximity, it becomes one of the primary markers through which home is understood-an orientation point that defines where one stands in relation to land, memory, and belonging. It has witnessed the formation and transformation of the human landscapes along its slopes: villages built and abandoned, fields cultivated and left to fallow, generations displaced and returned. The mountain remains, outliving these shifts, holding within it the traces of what has passed.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe drawing of borders in the twentieth century fixed its summit as a tri-border point, making it a site of contestation. Wars in 1967 and 1973 were fought over its control, and its slopes have been militarized since. Today, its summit is occupied by Israel and transformed into a site of surveillance. At the time of writing, the ongoing Israeli colonial war extends across Gaza into Lebanon and Syria. The South remains under assault: roads and bridges are bombed, homes and villages demolished, landscapes scorched. Borders harden and expand, further restricting movement toward the mountain and across it.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFrom within these conditions, this project takes shape as a work in progress. It begins with a set of questions rather than a fixed method: what does it mean to frame the mountain?
